Camera work - Doctor Who

1. Camera Shots Over the shoulder picture from the computers perspective, focusing in on the woman's face. this is used for effect and to show the expressions of the character in focus. Close up shot of the character showing her facial features and expressions, also blurs background for effect.  over shoulder image showing the character focused on the computers, showing scenery. This also creates a nice view for the viewer to look at. 2. Camera angles In this image, The camera is positioned behind the monitor with the webcam ontop, to give the effect that we are seeing them from an unseen aspect. The two women in frame can also be seen visually displeased with what they are hearing. 3. Mise en scene This image shows a woman who is shocked infront of a computer screen. This suggests to people who havent seen this clip that she may be on a call. This links to mise en scene because she is in the shot, and her emotions give off body language that suggest towards future events.

Audience Effects Theory

Task 1: 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? The meaning the producers intend to communicate. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? The oppositional reading goes against the meaning the producers are trying to create. Task 2: 1) Write a definition of a  passive  audience:  An audience that takes in information from the media passively. 2)  Write a definition of an  active  audience:  An audience that is more up to date, and make decisions on their own. 3) Write a definition of the  hypodermic needle  theory:  This is the suggestion that audiences are always  passive  and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds. Connotations & Denotations

  Connotations The WaterAid advert above shows text that says Dig toilets, Not graves. This means that instead of giving to the people without basic needs, like a toilet, that they will dig their grave meaning they will die. Denotations The setting suggests that he is living in quite a poor background, and his worn out and stained clothes also prove this point. We can see some huts in the background too, which means that his parents cannot afford to buy a brick house, and the fact its a WaterAid advert also is proof the house has no running water. Connotations In the SAAB advertisement, it depicts the SAAB 37 Viggen fighter jet, with the caption "You should see the car we make." This is a bold marketing strategy, because they are advertising the fighter jets they make while also emphasizing that you should look at the cars that they make, because it has the same fierce feel.
