Watch the clip: The opening of television drama ‘Stranger Things’, a science fiction story set in the 1980s when four friends get wrapped up in a dangerous alternate universe.

What meaning is communicated and how is it communicated?

The opening of Stranger Things establishes the setting as a retro themed environment infested by horror themes, Most of the characters shown in the 8 minutes are Kids or Teens, and only 2 adults. The theme can be portrayed as a thriller, horror, or a scary series/film. We know this because at the start it shows us a scientist trying to escape something at the end of a hallway, by going into an elevator, but gets eaten or taken somewhere by the creature who was hiding above him.
